Wolves Star Jimenez In Mexico’s 26-Man Squad - Sports Happening

Raul Jimenez has been included in Mexico’s final 26-man squad for this month’s World Cup in Qatar, despite not featuring for Wolves since the end of August.

Jimenez has only played five times for the midlands club this season, scoring once in the Carabao Cup win over Preston in the early weeks of the season.

Since then the 31-year-old has been sidelined with a groin injury, but has now been named in Mexico manager Gerardo Martino’s squad for the tournament, despite a serve lack of match fitness.

Earlier this month Mexico were have said to have angered Wolves when Jimenez appeared on the bench for the national team for their friendly against Iraq, even though he hadn’t been part of a Wolves squad since pulling out of the clash with Southampton in September.

Jimenez is the only Premier League name among Mexico’s 26-man party heading to Qatar, with striker having scored 29 goals in 94 games for his country.

He will be joined in attack by Hirving Lozano of table-topping Napoli, young Feyenoord forward Santiago Giménez as well as home-based players Henry Martin and Rogelio Funes Mori.

Other familiar names in Martino’s squad include 177-cap skipper Andrés Guardado now at Real Betis, former Porto and Atletico Madrid star Hector Herrera of Houston Dynamo and defender Hector Moreno, once of Roma.

Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is also still part of the Mexico party, and will be competing in his fifth World Cup for his country.

Mexico are in Group C alongside Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Poland. They begin their campaign against Robert Lewandowski’s Poland next Tuesday.
